Captain Jack's Kodak Retina Rangefinder Accessories

The Kodak Retina family of cameras had an amazing number of accessories offered for it over the years of their manufacture. I have been able to accumulate a substantial number of them for your review and will continue to add additional Retina accessories to this web page as they can be located and my collecting funds permit. Enjoy your visit.

I have grouped the accessories into four categories, as follows:

- Finders & Finder Accessories

- Close-up Accessories

- Stereo Accessories

- Miscellaneous Accessories

FINDERS & FINDER ACCESSORIES

Retina 35-80 Optical Viewfinder with its proper box & case. The Retina IIc and IIIc did not have frame markers in their rangefinders for the 35 and 80mm lenses so Kodak manufactured this neat little viewfinder. The later "Big C" Retinas do not require the use of this finder. Finder has parallax correction capability.

Retina 50-80 Frame Finder, Model C with its proper box & case. For fast shooting with the Retina IIc, IIIc, IIC and IIIC cameras, Kodak manufactured a Frame Finder with masks covering the 50mm and 80mm lenses.

Retina 50-80 Frame Finder, Model B with its proper case is displayed. Similar to the Model C, it lacks the moveable mask and was made specifically for the Retina IB and Ib cameras.

Retina Right Angle Finder with its proper box & case. A great accessory for shooting at ground level or when using the camera on one of the copying devices.

Kodak Service Rangefinder with it's proper box, case & instruction sheet. Not a specific Retina item, however, it is a great accessory for the early Retinas that lack coupled rangefinders.

Retina Close Range and Viewfinder Kit, Model B with its 2 close-up lenses, proper box and plastic case. Very versatile kit which includes parallax adjustment. Covers the distances from 38" down to 11 1/2 inches.

Retina IIIS 28mm Auxiliary Viewfinder with its proper box.

CLOSE-UP ACCESSORIES

Retina Camera Platform, Model C with its proper box. An important accessory that provides for a tripod socket in the center of the base of the camera. It is used in conjunction with the Retina Close-up Kit, Model C and the Kodak Table Top Camera Stand.

Retina Close-up Kit , Model C with its proper boxes. The close-up kit mounts to the camera via the Retina Camera Platform and the Camera Platform, Model C. Closeups in magnifications of 1:1.5, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:4.5 are easily accomplished using the framing rods and the close-up lenses included in the kit.
The second photo shows the Retina Close-up Kit , Model C with the 1:1.5 rods attached mounted on a Retina IIc camera,

Kodak Retina Close-up Kit for Retina II and IIa Cameras is displayed with its proper box and accessories. An uncommon accessory.

Retina Copy Stand with its proper box. Can be used as a mini-tripod, however, it is best suited for copy work. Very rigid!

Retina Table Top Camera Stand with its proper box. Black legs shown at their lowest position. There are detents in each of the legs that can be felt when extending them so as to be able to easily facilitate the various magnification settings. This is the Retina version of the famous Leica "BOOWU".

Retina Lighting Unit for Table Top Stand with its proper box. The two black, silver tipped arms are screwed into the side of the stand and the lights mounted so as to provide for 45 degree shadowless illumination of the documents being photographed.

Retina Microscope Adapter, Model D with its proper box.

Retina IIIS Close-up (Tripod) Table Stand 1:1 with its proper box. Utilizes the Schneider 50mm f2.8 Retina-Xenar lens and a supplementary lens for 1:1 copying capabilities.

Retina Slide Holder for Close-up Table Stand 1:1 with its proper box. Used for copying color slides.

Retina Close-up Lens Set, Type N/60 with its proper box. Really designed for use with the Kodak Retina Reflex S, III and IV, it can also be used with the Retina IIIS, somewhat awkwardly using a tape measure and focus conversions shown in the included brochure.

Retina Close-up Lens Set, Type R with its proper box. Just shown for information purposes. This set is only usable with the Kodak Retina Reflex.

STEREO ACCESSORIES

The Kodak Retina Stereo attachment is designed to work with the Retina IIc, IIIc, IIC and IIIC cameras to produce two stereo images on each 35mm frame. While it works in conjunction with the normal Retina lenses and is not a lens itself, I have elected to display and discuss it here.

Retina Stereo Attachment - The Retina Stereo attachment is displayed with its proper box and instruction booklet. In mint condition, these devices often command respectable prices on the used market. A matching Retina Stereo Slide Viewer was also manufactured by Kodak.

The Retina Stereo Attachment is displayed mounted on a Retina IIc Its' rear cap is also pictured.

Retina Stereo Viewer is displayed along with its' proper box. It is used to view the completed mounted Retina transparencies. Quite difficult to locate in pristine condition.

MISCELLANEOUS ACCESSORIES

Retina 50mm Lens Component Case with its proper box. When the normal 50mm lens component from the Retina IIc, IIIc, IIC or IIIC is not being used, Kodak designed this case in which to store it.

Retina Lens Hoods for folding Retina cameras - suffice it to say, Kodak manufactured lens hoods for just about every camera and lens they offered. The photo on the left shows a representative sampling along with their proper boxes.

Retina IIIS Lens Hoods - Kodak manufactured lens hoods for all of the IIIS lenses they offered. The photo shows a sampling of them along with their proper boxes.

Kodalux L Exposure Meters- Kodak manufactured at least two different clip-on exposure meters for the Retina cameras without built-in meters. Both meters displayed can read either incident (white baffles in place) or reflected light (baffles opened). Shown with their leather cases.

Kodak Retina Flasholder Bracket - Kodak manufactured a bracket to enable the attachment of the Kodalite Super M40 and other Kodalite Flashes to the Kodak Retina IIc, IIIc, Ib, IIC, IIIC and IB cameras. It is displayed with its' proper box.

Kodalite Super M40 Flasholder - The Super M40 flasholder was the most popular bulb flash unit produced for the Retina cameras of the day. It could use both the standard size 5, 6 & 25, etc., flashbulbs as well as the smaller M2 sized bulbs with an adapter that was supplied with the unit.

Kodak Rotary Flasholder - The Kodak Rotary Flasholder was designed to hold 6 miniature M-2 type flashbulbs for quick shooting. Two types were available. The one shown enables the mounting of the flash directly to the Retina's accessory shoe.

Kodablitz Flashgun - Kodak manufactured a small flashgun for miniature AG-1 flashbulbs. It is displayed with its' proper box. For amateur use only, the flash-to-subject distances permitted were very limited.

Kodak Retina IIIS Step-Down Ring for 50mm f1.9 Lenses - Used in order to facilitate the use of filters and close-up lenses designed for the 50mm f2.8 Retina IIIS lenses on the 50mm f1.9 lenses. It is displayed with its' proper box and holder.

Kodak Field Cases - Kodak manufactured everready cases for each of the Retina Models. The Retina IIIS case is displayed on the left and the IIc through IIIC case on the right.

Kodak Fitted Case, Model C - a small outfit case was manufactured for the Retina IIc through IIIC cameras to hold the camera, accessory lenses, filters, hoods, etc. Nicely made; clean ones are rather difficult to find on the used market.

Kodak Retina 8-Filter Pocket Case - a useful accessory for carying eight, 27 to 32mm diameter Retina Filters. This plastic storage case is quite uncommon.

In addition, Kodak also manufactured a Ground Glass Focusing Adapter for the interchangeable lens Retina IIc and IIIc cameras as well as a complete line of filters for each of their lenses including color correction filters and polarizers.
