Rollei SL35E (Chrome)

In 1978, Rollei introduced the SL35E. Rollei Singapore finally created a professional caliber single lens reflex camera. Their first two SLR cameras, the SL35M and SL35ME, were not up to the expectations of the camera public. Both had serious reliability issues.

The SL35E, on the other hand, was a big step forward. It had center-weighted open aperture metering capabilities in both automatic and full manual modes, a full range of shutter speeds from 1/1000 down to 16 seconds, X-synchronization at 1/125th and had the capability of using an accessory motor drive (scarce) or motor winder. For power, the SL35E take one PX-28 6 volt battery.

It was available in both chrome and satin black versions and was offered with either a 55mm f1.4 Rolleinar (made in Japan by Mamiya to Rollei specifications) or a 50mm f1.8 Rollei HFT Planar lens. It's high selling price and the fact that Rollei did not advertise it enough lessened the support it received.
