Exakta Varex VX - Version 3 with Altered Nameplate - Word "Varex" covered by Aluminum Plate

Hummel #021 *

Camera entering the USA during the late 50's and early 60's were commonly stopped by customs as a result of a battle between Argus and Ihagee over the name "Varex". This camera, out of the Jim Hayes' collection, is one of the earlier examples. This is one of the versions that are easily counterfeited. Unless you are experienced with these versions, let the buyer beware.

In Gary Cullen's Book, Exakta Obscurities, this camera is identified as a Modified Nameplate Camera, Version 4.

In the A&R Hove Book, this camera began life as a Version 5.
